EAT ME
August 16, 2002
Photography and Performance by Rob Zverina |

| Rob Zverina is one of the smartest people I know. That is why when he said
he was going to form his own excrement into appetizing dishes, photograph them
and print them with soy-based inks on rice paper, I- well, um, smelled an interesting
exhibit brewing. While the concept of edible art isn't exactly new, I dare you
to take a bite of a shitburger, or a shitkabob and not grimace. This one evening
only exhibition and performance (naked waitresses and waiters garnering edible
paint feed the audience edible twenty dollar bills, with a painted berry for desert)
was so fresh and uncharted and weird that you couldn't help but contemplate eating
shit, and the psychological ramifications of shitballs and pasta. Rob invited
the visitors to bring in their own edible works of art, discussed the newly discovered
tricks of working in the medium of human excrement (refrigeration), until the
last berry was gone and everyone swore off hamburgers forever. Not all art is
glamorous, but crap can be candy coated. |
