| A squirrel perches on a small branch, alone and curious of the observer. Behind
him lies a landscape of clear-cut forest, lifeless and barren. The nose of a commercial
airplane touches a vast and anonymous ocean, a snapshot at the moment of impact
as a seagull cautiously flies away. All around you are images of airplanes and
birds, forests and highways, the scares of progress and the expressions of uncertain
onlookers, both innocent and responsible. These are the images of Leiv Fagereng,
a commentary of life at the dawn of a new century, a time he refers to as the
Quicksand Years. Vital 5 Productions is proud to present the first solo exhibition
of Leiv Fagereng and display over forty new works that explore the natural beauty
of the Pacific Northwest and the denial of our impact upon it. As a native of
Portland Oregon and a graduate from The Chicago Art Institute, Leiv Fagereng has
spent the last ten years in Seattle observing and painting the ever-changing landscape
around him. His visions of nature bear the footprint of industry and present the
awkward marriage between man and nature. |
