THE FUTURE
August 21 - September 1, 1998

A group multi-media exhibition and fashion show featuring works by Jeffrey X Ortiz, Katie Mack, Matthew Diezsi, Jimmy Gersen, Nicola Vruwink, Christine Shannon, Brian Constance, Tomo Manabe, Yasufumi Kajiwara, Denise Barry, Greg Lundgren and Tom.
The intent of this show was to present a collective vision of the future, as narrated through the eyes of young contemporary artists. The Future emphasized art technology and fashion by both satirical and serious inquiry. The show was highlighted by an 8' x 8' installation by Nicola Vruwink, entitled "Sugar Coated" which filled part of the gallery with hundreds of pounds of white cane sugar and volumes of cotton candy constructions. Other highlights included the premiere of new technicolor paintings by Japanese artist Yasufumi Kajiwara, Brian Constance's meticulously constructed "Dollar Bill Incinerator" and beautiful handmade paper dresses by Denise Barry.
